Innovapeek: RFID traceability for orthodontic instruments

A mobile RFID platform for tracking sterilization workflows

Innovapeek explored how RFID could provide reliable traceability for orthodontic instruments throughout cleaning and sterilization. OAAS integrated readers, mobile connectivity and workflow software into a field-ready proof of concept.

Why ?

Why trace each sterilization step?

Sterilization quality depends on knowing where each instrument is, which operations it has completed and whether the complete process can be demonstrated.

The objective was to identify orthodontic instruments automatically and create a reliable digital history without slowing down cabinet operations.

Your benefits

End-to-end traceability

OAAS relies on a proven technical foundation: device or data management, collection, dashboards, alerts, security and automation. You save development time and focus your effort on business needs.

Instead of rebuilding a complete solution for every project, OAAS relies on a scalable technical foundation that can adapt to different uses, industries and field constraints.

All elements are monitored from a single interface. Teams can review status, latest data and configuration without multiplying tools.

Field data is collected, historized and transformed into understandable indicators. The goal is not only to store measurements, but to make them useful for decisions and actions.

Clear specifications, controlled testing and close collaboration keep delivery focused, testable and aligned with the real needs of the field.

How ?

How did the RFID solution work?

The client first validated the integration of two RFID tags in each instrument so that at least one tag could be read accurately in normal operating conditions.

OAAS then integrated CAEN RFID readers with the platform and modeled the successive workflow steps: cleaning, temperature-controlled sterilization and packaging.

What ?

What was delivered?

A proof-of-concept platform combining CAEN readers, Raspberry Pi hardware, 4G connectivity and hosted software was created and operated between 2020 and 2022.

The solution demonstrated that RFID could capture the progress of instruments through the complete preparation and sterilization process.

Conclusion

Conclusion

The platform gave the client a practical foundation for monitoring process quality in orthodontic practices.

It also validated the technical choices required for mobile RFID reading and end-to-end sterilization traceability.
